Join our small group to explore its breathtaking nature, abandoned fortresses, and towering mountains. The journey itself is an unforgettable adventure. Our trip starts in Tbilisi, from where we travel deep into Tusheti’s heart, discovering traditional villages, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. Unforgettable Horseback Adventure Reaching Tusheti is an experience in itself. The only access is on foot, by jeep, or by helicopter. We begin with an off-road jeep journey, slowly climbing the rocky Abano Pass (2,900 m) before descending into Tusheti’s untouched beauty. We will spend four full days on horseback, exploring the national park’s pristine landscapes. The journey concludes with a scenic jeep ride back to the Alazani Valley, marking the end of an adventure that will stay with you forever.
Flight to Tbilisi, Group Meeting at the Airport Upon arrival in Tbilisi, the group will be welcomed at the airport. We then embark on an off-road journey to the Alazani Valley, the birthplace of Georgia’s finest wines. The rocky and challenging dirt road takes more than half a day, despite the relatively short distance. A 70 km stretch consists of a winding serpentine mountain road, crossing the majestic slopes of the Caucasus. We will take a short break at Abano Pass (2,926 m above sea level) before continuing to our guesthouse in the village of Omalo.
Pirikitskaya Alazani River and cross the bridge to reach a viewpoint located about a kilometer from the village of Shenako. It is worth noting that the famous Georgiy Daneliya film "Mimino" was filmed in the villages of Omalo and Shenako. Shenako is home to the Sameba Church (built in 1843) and local sacred "niches", remnants of ancient pagan beliefs. According to Tushetian traditions, women are not allowed into these sacred areas. We continue our journey to Diklo village, located near the border with Dagestan. If time permits, we can visit the fortress ruins. We then return to Omalo guesthouse for dinner. A traditional sauna is available for those who wish to relax.
Horseback Journey from Omalo to Dartlo Village Today, we will leave our guesthouse in Omalo for a day and ride into the wide and beautiful Pirikitskaya Alazani River Valley towards Dartlo village. On the way, we will visit the magnificent Keselo Fortress, located in Upper Omalo. We will then cross the Ghele Pass, a historically significant site where the four Tushetian communities used to gather for meetings in past centuries. We will spend the night in a guesthouse in Dartlo, a village where every house has been granted cultural heritage status.
After breakfast, we saddle up our horses and ascend to the Ghele Pass, heading towards Upper Omalo. We then return to our guesthouse in Lower Omalo. A sauna will be available for those who wish to relax.
Breakfast with Traditional Georgian Dishes. Today is one of the most important horseback journeys of our trip. We set off on a ride to Oreti Lake, a breathtaking destination in the heart of Tusheti. Along the way, we will cross the Tushetian Alazani River, enjoying the stunning natural surroundings. In the evening, we return to Omalo for dinner. After a long day of riding, a sauna will be the perfect way to relax!

Now, an exciting 37-kilometer descent on a winding dirt road awaits us – a truly breathtaking experience! Upon reaching the Alazani Valley, we stop in Kvareli – a town famous for its wineries. Nearby, you can find renowned Georgian wine brands such as Graneli and Khareba, while in the town itself, there is the famous Kindzmarauli Winery. Kindzmarauli Corporation is one of Kvareli’s main attractions, and we will take time for a guided tour and wine tasting. At the winery’s shop, you can also purchase wine at affordable prices.
