Lycian Way – A Journey Through the Land of Light Lycia is the ancient name of the Teke Peninsula, stretching between Antalya and Fethiye along Turkey’s southern coast. The name "Lycia" comes from the Hittite word "Lukka," meaning "light." This land truly deserves its name, as it enjoys more than 300 sunny days a year. The Lycian Way consists of Roman, Seljuk, and Ottoman-era paths, animal trails, and forest roads. It is one of the longest hiking routes in the world, spanning 540 kilometers along the coastline. Recognized as one of the top ten long-distance trails globally, it offers breathtaking landscapes and historical wonders. This program selects the best sections of the Lycian Way, offering the most popular route. A support vehicle carries luggage, eliminating the need for heavy backpacks. Organized transfers ensure that you visit and hike through the most beautiful and interesting parts of the trail without unnecessary strain.
Flight to Dalaman or Antalya – Direct or via Istanbul. Group meeting at the airport. Transfer to Fethiye. Hotel accommodation. Independent lunch at a local restaurant. Then, we will visit the Lycian rock tombs and descend to the seaside. Independent dinner at a local restaurant.
Morning Departure to Kayakoy Village – Start of the Hike Kayakoy is an old Greek village that was abandoned after the population exchange in 1924 due to Greek migration. Since then, it has remained a ghost town. Walking through its streets, we see houses, doors, windows, and churches reflecting the architecture of that time. Our hike begins with a gentle ascent through the ruins of Kayakoy. We then continue towards Oludeniz, exploring bays along the ancient Lycian Way under the shade of pine trees. We will take a break to swim at the stunning Oludeniz Beach. Note: There will be enough time for those who wish to paraglide from the summit of Mount Babadag. Transfer to the hotel in Fethiye.
Hike from 350 m Above Sea Level – Ascent 400 m, Descent 350 m A short transfer will take us to the starting point of the Lycian Way. The hike begins with a climb, offering breathtaking views of Oludeniz and the surrounding region. After approximately 3 hours of trekking along the slopes of Mount Babadag, we reach the village of Kozagach, where we enjoy lunch in a local village house. In the afternoon, we descend through Kirme village to Faraliya. We end the day with a sunset in Faraliya, located on a plateau overlooking Butterfly Valley, and stay overnight in a hotel.
(Altitude gain: 150 m) We begin our hike directly from the hotel. In the morning, we are enchanted by the breathtaking views of Butterfly Valley, named after the blue butterflies that inhabit the area. Our trail follows cliffs and rocky paths leading toward the sea. We descend to Aktash Beach, where we take a lunch break. In the afternoon, our coastal walk with stunning sea views on the right takes us to Kabak Bay in about 2 hours. After some relaxation by the sea, we transfer to the hotel.
After breakfast, we drive to the town of Kas, located on the Mediterranean coast. If desired, we can have lunch at one of the local cafés. We continue our journey, heading deeper into the forest, where we reach small secluded beaches—perfect spots for a refreshing swim. Today’s route is easy yet fascinating. Short ascents alternate with gentle descents, offering a dynamic hiking experience. We are surrounded by volcanic rock formations that add a unique character to the landscape. Lava fragments can also be found along the bays. Another advantage of this route is its remoteness from villages, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in nature. We hike through cliffs, forests, and along the sea before descending to Uzyum Bay for a swim. Afterward, we transfer to the hotel.
Morning Departure to the Beginning of Bogazcik Village We will start our journey in the morning, heading towards the beginning of Bogazcik village. From there, we will hike to the ancient city of Apollonia, where some buildings date back to the 5th century BC. Within the city ruins, we can see remnants of a theater, churches, and bathhouses. The Lycian city of Apollonia is located off the main tourist trails, ensuring a peaceful and authentic experience without crowds. On the way to another ancient settlement, we will descend to the sea for a refreshing swim. For the remainder of the journey, we will travel by speedboat along the coast. Upon reaching the picturesque village of Üçağız, we will check into a cozy hotel for the night.
After Breakfast – Easy Hike and Ancient Simena Exploration After breakfast, we set off on an easy hike. Near our campsite, on a low hill, stands Kale or Simena – an ancient Lycian city. Its history dates back to the 4th century BC. Due to an earthquake, part of the city was submerged underwater, adding to its unique appeal for visitors. From the hilltop, you can clearly see Lycian sarcophagi, tombs, and columns beneath the water. At the foot of the hill, you can also explore the remains of ancient bathhouses. Midday Transfer to Antalya At noon, we transfer by bus to Antalya, from where you will independently travel to either Antalya or Dalaman airports for your flight home. Thus, we conclude another incredible week of adventure. We say goodbye with the hope of meeting again on another unforgettable journey through Lycia!
Estimated additional costs (excluding dinners) will be around €50-70 for the entire trip.
